Opportunity

Edmonton Global is seeking a Manager Engagement & Partnerships to join our Strategy & Innovation division.  The Strategy & Innovation division is responsible for stakeholder relations, business partnerships, policy and advocacy, global competitiveness, thought leadership and strategic foresight, performance measurement, strategy and business planning.

The Manager Engagement & Partnerships will lead the organization’s stakeholder engagement strategies and strategic partnerships and will play a key role in advancing Edmonton Global’s brand and strategic priorities through engagement and communications with a range of stakeholders, including senior public servants, academics, business leaders, Indigenous communities and economic development partners. The right candidate will have the capacity to think in an integrated way about advocacy and engagement as well as a deep commitment to transforming and growing the economy of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region. 

Responsibilities

Reporting to the VP, Strategy & Innovation, the Manager, Engagement & Partnerships manages the planning, development and implementation of the following initiatives:  

  • Business engagement strategy to engage business and community leaders in the economic development process and advocacy initiatives
  • Shareholder engagement strategy 
  • Election candidate engagement and education
  • Provincial and federal government relations and advocacy strategies
  • Issues tracking and management
  • Indigenous engagement 
  • Development of background and supporting materials to support the broader Edmonton Global team in stakeholder engagements 
  • Support the Trade & Investment team with stakeholder engagement related to investor relations and investment attraction

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be an adaptive and dynamic individual comfortable working in a fast-paced organization and manage a heavy workload of multiple projects and emergent issues. The successful candidate will also embody Edmonton Global’s core values: integrity, collaborative, empowered, transformative, and invested.  

The following skills, experiences and aptitudes will also be required.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree and/or minimum 5-8 years of related experience
  • Proven track record of leading initiatives, hitting goals, succeeding in a high performing team environment and delivering to tight deadlines 
  • Experience leading engagement plans that include diverse stakeholders
  • Experience with public affairs, stakeholder relations and advocacy
  • Experience with stakeholder identification and mapping
  • Strong understanding of all three levels of government

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with a diverse audience
  • Ability to build relationships, trust and credibility quickly and effectively
  • Capacity to lead consultants and external teams
  • Relentlessly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to forecast and pre-emptively solve issues before they become problems
  • Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial drive and have no problem adapting to change, and finding innovative ways of executing initiatives 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders 
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities with tight deadlines

The following are not required, but considered assets:

  • Experience with private sector and indigenous engagement
  • Experience with communications, strategy development and public policy
  • Familiarity with social media
