The Region is driving innovation forward in the world of robotics, transportation and logistics — with artificial intelligence at the wheel.
The Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) is using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to improve the lives of people the world over.
Amii’s collaboration with the University of Alberta-based Bionic Limbs for Improved Natural Control (BLINC) Lab on the Adaptive Prosthetics Program uses real-time machine learning methods for assistive rehabilitation and intelligent artificial limbs. BLINC Lab brings together researchers and clinicians to advance prosthetic care through robotics and machine learning.
Companies are taking notice of the Region’s innovation in robotics— Amazon is building its first robotics fulfillment centre in the Region, and the Edmonton International Airport is piloting local drone shipments.
Autonomous vehicles are also hitting the streets — changing the way we do business and bringing more convenience to people around the world. Machine learning is the backbone of self-driving autonomous vehicles, and the research conducted here is propelling new developments in AI, like Canada’s first autonomous vehicle pilot project in Beaumont.
“Self-driving cars are the natural extension of active safety and obviously something we should do.” – Elon Musk
