Quality of Life

The Edmonton Metropolitan Region boasts a high quality of life. Universal health care, free primary and secondary schooling (K to 12), affordable housing, recreational activities, and competitive salaries cultivate a positive and welcoming atmosphere that draws diverse talent from around the world.

Affordable living

You can actually afford to live here, buy a home, and raise a family. That’s not the case in most other major tech and economic hubs. Our high average wages, combined with low cost of living, makes putting down roots here very attractive. And whether you’re heading to work or hockey practice, you can get almost anywhere here in about 20 minutes or less. Your time is valuable, don’t waste it commuting.

We are one of the sunniest places in Canada, averaging over 2,300 hours of sunlight each year. All that sunlight helps maintain the plethora of parks and green spaces that weave their way throughout the region including Edmonton’s river valley — the largest forest in North America, with more than 160 km of maintained pathways and 20 major parks. And that’s in just one of our 14 communities across the region. We’re also home to many freshwater lakes and rivers, trail systems, and natural areas. Canada’s Rocky Mountains are also just a short drive away.
