Media Release – Edmonton Global launches forward/slash, uniting the region behind a common vision for our economic future

The forward/slash Economic Summit drew approximately 1000 leaders from across the region

October 19, 2022 (Edmonton Metropolitan Region) – On September 28, 2022, Edmonton Global, in collaboration with more than 40 partner organizations hosted the inaugural forward/slash Economic Summit. This event is a first-of-its-kind for the Edmonton region, and brought leadership from industry, academia, Indigenous Nations and communities, NGOs, and VC/finance to purposefully, proactively, and inclusively build towards a thriving future for the Edmonton region’s economy.

The event highlighted high growth, high potential sectors for the Edmonton region including hydrogen, global logistics and supply chain, food and agriculture, artificial intelligence and tech, and health and life sciences. These are areas where the Edmonton region can compete to win on a global scale.

The event was emceed by author and keynote speaker Shawn Kanungo and featured a number of exciting speakers from across the region including:

  • Mayor Sohi, Mayor of Edmonton
  • Grand Chief Arcand, Confederacy of Treaty Six
  • John Take, EVP, Chief Growth & Innovation Officer, Stantec
  • Bill Flanagan, President, University of Alberta
  • Ian Burns, CEO, Servus Credit Union
  • and many others

It also included showcase exhibits related to the sectors where attendees were able to interact with and speak with experts to learn more.
