Exploring the Chinese Market for Hydrogen

May 11 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm MDT

Virtual Event Virtual Event

Objective

Western Canada is well-positioned to become a global leader in the transition to a net-zero emissions energy future, with hydrogen playing a key role.  With 72 other nations committed to net-zero by 2050, export markets are critical to building a hydrogen economy.

This webinar is for discovering and understanding where the Demand Markets might be, what their expectations are, and the next steps along the pathway to establishing the export market to meet a top three global supplier goal for Canada.

Topics to be discussed as part of the market discovery sessions will include stakeholder perspectives regarding issues such as:

  • Hydrogen forms (e.g. NH3 / LH2 / Other)
  • Production (e.g. GHG intensity measurement)
  • Timelines
  • Cost
  • Commitment (contract length);
  • Demand profile (e.g. steady, exponential, etc.)
  • Preferred delivery form
  • Partnership opportunities

What you can expect:

  • A deeper understanding of export market needs and expectations
  • General understanding of the high-level supply chain requirements

Who should attend:

  • Senior Federal and Provincial government representatives interested in export, industry and jobs, climate change and environment in Western Canada
  • Indigenous representatives
  • Key export and hydrogen production, transportation, and export companies
  • Officials and stakeholders from market regions
  • Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub Leadership
  • Researchers and technical experts

Agenda (90 minutes)

  • Welcome and Introductions from Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub; Sturgeon County Mayor, Alana Hnatiw; Chinese Consul General (Calgary) Madam Lu, and Introductory Comments from Canadian Embassy (Trade Commissioner Service) in Beijing, Michelle Jette.
  • Overview of the hydrogen economy and potential, including assumptions about the economics of international market delivery
  • Moderated Q&A  from the audience via chat
  • Wrap up
