ABOUT EDMONTON DIRECT
Edmonton Direct is an online experience that showcases games and game development in Edmonton. Comprised of two parts, Edmonton Direct is a video and an event. The video highlights games and games culture made in Edmonton, while the event brings industry speakers, diverse panels, and esports competitors together to show off Edmonton talent. The Edmonton Direct video will premiere on May 5 2021, the event will be held on May 15 and 16 on twitch.tv/esportsalberta.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
In addition to a wide range of esports tournaments and related wellness programming, there will be speakers and panels featuring local developers from BioWare, Improbable, Beamdog, independent studios, and post-secondary institutions. The awards ceremony for the University of Alberta’s Certificate in Computer Game Development will also be included. The intention of Edmonton Direct is to unify, bring visibility to, and celebrate Edmonton and its gaming communities through a single all-encompassing gaming-focused event. In 2021, Edmonton Direct will be an online event; future experiences will incorporate in-person programming.
ABOUT THE HOSTS
The Edmonton Screen Industries Office was established in 2017 and is a non-profit society that serves all Edmonton Metro region screen media, inclusive of film, television and interactive digital media. Its mission is to catalyze the development, growth and sustainability of companies, entrepreneurs and craftspeople in the Edmonton Metro region screen media industries.
The Alberta Esports Association is a non-profit organization founded in 2020 and established as the governing body for provincial esports within Alberta. AESA is building Alberta’s esports industry with a community-driven approach to foster the growth of local communities, create opportunities for player excellence, and foster career pathways for long-term industry success.
