SMR Forum 2024

October 9 - October 10

Join us this October 9-10 for the SMR Forum 2024 in Edmonton, a pivotal chapter in Canada’s leadership in nuclear technology.
This forum will highlight the role of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in Canada’s strategy to support a growing economy and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Hosted in the Edmonton Region, in the heart of Western Canada—a region experiencing rapid demographic and industrial growth—this two-day conference aims to establish a foundational platform for ongoing dialogue on SMRs. We are committed to exploring several key areas:

  • Indigenous Partnerships: Developing collaborative approaches for the inclusive development and operation of SMRs, recognizing the critical role of Indigenous communities.
  • Regulatory Frameworks: Tailoring regulatory processes to accelerate the deployment of SMRs efficiently and safely.
  • Public Education and Engagement: Addressing the challenge of transforming public perception through informed dialogue to highlight the benefits and safety of SMRs.
  • Supply Chain and Workforce Development: Preparing the supply chain and a workforce capable of sustaining Canada’s nuclear innovation by building the necessary skills and capacity.
  • Technological Frontier and International Cooperation: The forum will explore the role of SMRs in powering emerging technologies such as AI and data centers, while also addressing the critical importance of cybersecurity in protecting these advanced systems. Additionally, it will examine the significance of international collaboration, particularly between Canada and the United States, in advancing SMR technology and achieving shared energy goals.

This forum is an opportunity to dive deep into the integration of SMRs into Canada’s future energy mix. Participants will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the regulatory, societal, and technical aspects of SMR deployment.
  • Engage in discussions that bridge the gap between public perception and the realities of nuclear energy.
  • Connect with pioneers and decision-makers from all levels of government and the private sector to forge essential connections and develop innovative strategies.
