Purpose and Reporting Structure of the Role

Reporting to the VP of Strategy & Innovation, The Manager of Strategic Initiatives is a strategic thinker and a thought partner for leaders throughout the organization. Comfortable asking “why are we doing it this way”, “so what”, “are we being collaborative” – this role challenges Edmonton Global to be different from other economic development organizations.

In addition to being a thinker, this role is also a doer and executes on special projects for the organization. A primary responsibility is to drive design and delivery of programs within the Strategy & Innovation division. This role will develop and manage innovative initiatives to successful completion that support the organization in executing the Strategic Plan.

This role description is intended primarily as an illustration of the type of deliverables expected and nature of work to be performed from the person in this position. Specific qualifications, requirements and responsibilities of the role are listed below.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree (MBA or advanced degree an asset)
  • Minimum 5-8 years of related experience, start-up experience is a plus
  • Experience with strategic and business planning
  • Experience in Project & Program Management and Change Management
  • Proven analytical and critical thinker, comfortable with finding innovative solutions to problems
  • Proven track record of leading initiatives, hitting goals, succeeding in a high performing team environment and delivering to tight deadlines
  • Experience working with and managing consultants and external teams

Skills and Knowledge

  • A highly adaptive and dynamic individual comfortable working in a start-up organization, willing to roll up their sleeves and do whatever it takes to execute Edmonton Global’s Strategic Plan and mission

What you will do

  • Participate in the development of the organization’s Strategic and Business Plans and manage tracking, monitoring and communicating the progress of initiatives against defined key performance indicators for reporting to the Board, Shareholders and public
  • Organize and facilitate the development of structured, detailed project plans for strategic initiatives ensuring alignment to the priorities and objectives outlined in Edmonton Global’s Strategic Plan
  • Direct the delivery and execution of all key aspects of strategic initiative project plans including (but not limited to): planning, scheduling, resourcing, risk assessment, cost/benefit analysis, time/cost estimates, tracking budgeting/costs and progress
  • Manage external partners and vendors to ensure deliverables meet expected business results, deadlines and budget requirements
  • Ensure coordination across projects for efficiency, global alignment and integrity
  • Create ongoing initiative awareness among internal and external stakeholders through post-implementation status updates which may include presentations, dashboards or reports (oral or written)
  • Manage and execute on various other initiatives for the Strategy & Innovation division as designated by the VP, Strategy & Innovation
